CHALLENGES OF RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION PROCESS
Recruitment and Selection is a complex
process which will determine the productivity of an organization because
getting a talented candidates attention is important inorder to et the job
completed or proceed with the best possible way, de to this, the recruitment
and selection process has many challenges and these needs to be surpassed in
order to fill a vacancy with the best candidate.
According to a research done by (Nikoletta,
2022) there are 8 common recruitment and selection challenges. The article
states that attracting the right candidate is a challenge where the right candidate
at a specific time is not preferred whereas the candidate who is best ft for
the job is preferred. Another challenge is to engage qualified candidates where
the recruitment team needs to stand out because candidates with high and rare
skills are always in demand and will receive many offers. Another challenge is
the duration taken to hire a candidate, where the hiring team needs to recruit
as fast as possible cause a delay in recruitment is a delay in operations and
vacant positions cost money.
Data collecting and processing can be another
challenge to recruitment and selection as they require manual work and are
prone to human error. A better employer brand needs to be built in order to
attract and engage better candidates and doing that is a challenge as it
requires investment and is a collective effort. Ensuring a good candidate
experience during the recruitment stages is vital cause it portrays how the candidates
will be treated afterwards. Another challenge is to recruit fairly which a very
hard with the interference of stereotypes and nepotism and also considering
diversity effect. Coordinating an efficient recruitment and selection process
itself is a challenge where the hiring teams need to communicate fast and
evaluate candidates easily making sure the whole process t=runs smoothly
consuming less time and cost while ensuring good candidate experience.
(Zinyemba, 2014) states that there are
several other challenges which plays a part in recruitment and selection, one
of which is the cost for advertising. Advertising is done in order to obtain a
greater and a more diverse pool off applicants. The greater the advertisement,
the greater the chances of the best fit for the job vacancy being found. The
challenge is to ensure that the advertisement reaches the target destination
and to make the advertisement an effective one the cost spent on advertisement
will be greater. Another challenge is the misrepresentation of qualification
where the applicant can get the job only to realize that the applicant is not
capable to carry out the job. Challenges rise through nepotism and favoritism
where jobs ae given to members of the family when there is a position of power.
There is a recruitment and selection challenge depending on the geographical
location of the company where if the company is located very far away or in a
remote area the pool of employees can be limited.

(Nagarajan & Fathima, 2014) explains a
few other challenges in the recruitment and selection process some of which are
that that the HR professionals are
expected to be in tune with eh changing times which is also known as the
adaptability to globalization. Another challenge is the lack of motivation
where the HR department is not thanked or appreciated for recruiting the right
employees even though there is a improvement in the organization
Clarity, planning, legal considerations,
accuracy, fairness, honesty, and support of the HR department are the most
important principles that should be implemented in the recruitment and
selection of employees, to ensure that the most suitable candidates are chosen
and to, as a consequence, ensure the optimal operation of the organization,
however ensuring that these principles are implemented in the right manner will
be challenge in the whole process(Baron et al., 2018).
