THE IMPACT OF RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION ON STAFF RETENTION.
A good
recruitment and selection process can provide a positive influence to
increasing employee commitment, productivity and the quality of work (Sutanto
& Kurniawan, 2017). Staff retention is the process in which the employees
are encouraged to remain with the organization for the maximum period of time
or until the completion of the objectives where the basic aim of employee
retention Is to reduce employee turnover and to considerably reduce the
associated expenses of hiring, training and orientation of the new employees (Khalid
& Nawab, 2018).
There is
evidence that performance can decrease if the employee retention is bad and
there is a possibility of stagnation if employee turnover is too dejected (Sutanto
& Kurniawan, 2017). Recruitment has an impact on staff retention and it is
proved in research that the employee recruitment process in an organization have
the same recruitment system and the difference is only in the process, decision
making, employment package and retention was most influenced by the changes in
the above factors. This also includes salaries and allowances, job security and
the work environment Sutanto & Kurniawan, 2017.
(Ramki,
2015) that there might be two reasons why retention is a critical issue for
high technology firms. Firstly, retaining valuable employees would help prevent
organizations from depleting their stock of knowledge, thus maintaining the
firm‘s competitive advantage. In some cases, it would especially hurt a company
if the whole team left and brought their R&D capacity or client base to the
firm‘s competitors. Secondly, seeking replacement knowledge workers might be
relatively difficult and costly. It has been estimated that reemployment costs
might be as high as 2.5 times the staff‘s annual salary.
According
to (Nwoke & Agwu, 2019) the fight for retention commences at the stage of
hiring, with organizations selecting employees whose interests and talents fit
with the needs of the company whether it is short or long term in nature. Recruitment
needs to be made in line with what is essential to the organization and its
future goals by keeping in view the retention of the workers. To draw and
retain talent compatibility hiring, that is the “fit” between employer and
worker is critical. The author further stressed that recruiting the right
individuals in right positions is vital to empower firms to enhance retentions.
Recruitment
and selection are an essential tool in assisting the human resource managers
and the entire company to hire the right people and retain them (O‘Brien,
2011). While it is understood and accepted that poor recruitment decisions
continue to affect organizational employee retention, many organizations across
diverse jurisdictions have not identified and implemented effective hiring
strategies. The author mentions that the organizational conditions of
administrative leadership considering recruitment and selection, compensation
and personal circumstances had a major role to play in the staff retention. The
study results supported this premise in that the relationship between employee
recruitment and selection strategies and employee retention was found to be
statistically significant

Agreed Joel, Recruitment and Selection isn't an easy task, and it takes a challenges to hire the right seeker for the job and avoid a bad hire. A recovery platoon faces lots of challenges throughout the hiring process. And as a good recruiter, and to enhance the employer branding, the recruiter had to fill the open position within minimal time (Compton, et al., 2010)
ReplyDeleteThank You for your comment. According to ((Kumar & Gupta, 2015)) recruitment is important because in creates a talent pool of potential candidates which will be beneficial to the company. It also increases the pool of job seeking candidates at minimum cost while increasing the success rate of selection process of selection process by decreasing the number of visits qualified or overqualified job applicants. Effective recruitment will identify and prepare potential job applicants who will be the appropriate candidature for the job.
DeleteAgreed on the above content Joel, recruitment according to (Boateng, 2021) states, it is a process of selecting the most suitable candidate among the pool of candidates who apply for the job. The result of this process will be the elimination of unsuitable candidates and the use of scientific techniques to identify the most suitable candidates. This process has 5 key features: attracting, interviewing, identifying, selecting, and hiring an individual to be a part of a company’s workforce.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment and also i would like to add that promotion and performance appraisal can be act as a motivation to employee and Steps of performance appraisal a starts with job analysis where description of employee required in a particular job is done. This is the very important step and most crucial step in order to assign right candidate for right job (Pande, 2021).
DeleteGood blog Joel and sharing further details to your content, For any organization, employees are considered to be its life blood. Success and profitability of the organization relies on how the employees accomplish their job. Therefore, it is crucial to choose the right person for the right place. An appropriate job selection process boosts up the profitability of the organization because a good experience which is gathered in the selection process carried by the individual and thus it is a healthy starting for an amiable work experience (Kanungo, 1982).
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment and I would like to add that from personal experience that staff retention matter specially from employee engagement and motivation and a major factor which affect motivation and engagement is the applicant recruitment and selection.
DeleteInteresting Post Ranushan, furthermore the effective recruitment and selection of employees is a fundamental human resources management activity, one that if managed well can have a significant impact on organisational performance as well as lead to a more positive organisational image (Pilbeam, Corbridge 2006, In: Evans et al. 2007).
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment i would like to add that employee retention is one of the major problems facing companies facing the competitive environment. The big business challenge is to align your goals with the growing demand for a balanced organizational climate that meets basic human needs and where work is synonymous with personal fulfillment and fulfillment (Teixeira & França, 2013)
DeleteThank you for your comment. I would like to mention that according to Samuel and Chipunza (2009), turnover occurs when employees leave their jobs and it becomes necessary to replace them, which entails costs for organizations. For this reason, Khan and Aleem (2014) argue that retaining employees, especially the most talented, has become the major challenge for manager
ReplyDeleteA great post Ranushan in addition the organization is required to follow appropriate selection processes, the reason being, if the selection is not carried out in an appropriate manner, then it would impose unfavorable effects upon the organization and loss would be incurred to the employer in terms of money, time, and efforts (Recruitment and Selection, 2016).
ReplyDeleteAgree with the blog post content Joel. Further would like to add, that the process of discovering and enlisting the personnel that an organization needs is called recruitment (Armstrong and Taylor 2014). Before employing new employees, employers conduct research on job analyses and job descriptions, classifying candidates according to their qualifications. Recruitment, according to Flippo (1984), is the process of seeking out potential employees and encouraging them to submit applications for jobs within the company.
ReplyDeleteInteresting Post Ranushan. The staff retention is highly correlated with the certain factors such as quality recruitment , staff training and motivation and staff engagement. The efficienc staff recruitment and selection system is attend right person right skill, thus system cannot ensure the requitement will be succuss 100%. There may possibility to recruit persons with unsatisfied performance that an organization evaluate after certain time period since recruitment. If this situation, the training and development system shall encounter the gap between required level of competence and the current level skill of the requited employee and shall ensure it has been implement right system to fill the gap identify without harming major operation. The recruitment it self shall not coursed to improve retention ratio and it should be collaborate other two factors.
